Miriam’s Cup at the Seder

Miriam Cups are a modern feminist tradition celebrating Miriam’s heroism in the Exodus narrative, as well as highlighting the contributions of all Jewish women toward their nation’s redemption. Many place their Miriam Cups beside Elijah’s Cup and fill it with water to commemorate the Well of Miriam, which miraculously sustained the Jewish people during their 40-year journey through the desert.

Miriam cups are available in a rainbow of colors, materials, and styles. They commonly include feminine elements, like seen in Quest’s enameled Pink Miriam’s Cup, and water symbolism, such as found on Gad Almaliah’s Miriam Cup

In addition to use over the Passover holiday, Miriam Cups make meaningful life-cycle gifts, especially for Bat Mitzvahs, as they recognize the unique, honored role of women in Judaism and history.
