Treasured Collections aims to help couples remember their wedding day on every day of the year. For twenty-five years, the group has preserved hundreds of broken glasses, and other wedding mementos, in beautiful Lucite arrangements such as their unique Cubed Wedding Glass Keepsake and Trees of Life Sculptures.

The idea of creating Lucite Jewish Wedding Gifts came to Mark Weiss over two decades ago. At a friend’s home, Weiss discovered a pile of broken glass at the bottom of a snifter. He was told that they were the remnants of the glass that had been broken under the chuppah. The groom’s brother had saved the glass shards and then gifted them to the couple a year later.

The idea of keeping a souvenir from the moment that a couple becomes husband and wife touched Weiss deeply. As Treasured Collections puts it, “Years from now, you may not remember who gave you a toaster oven, but you'll never forget who gave you the actual glass you broke on your wedding day.”

Weiss knew that there had to be a better way of preserving that special moment than merely depositing the shards in a bottle. After some searching, he found several partners who shared his vision, and Treasured Collections was born.

To start the process, the couples selects the glass that they wish to shatter under the Chuppah. Treasured Collection pieces can be made using any glass of your preferred color and style. If, after breaking the glass, there aren’t enough pieces to recreate the glass, Treasured Collections offers the option to have additional matching glass shards added at no extra cost.

Following the wedding, the shards are sent to the Treasured Collections studio where they delicately place the glass, piece by piece, into lucite. This process is a painstaking one that must be done by hand. For Cubed Wedding Glass Keepsakes, the original cup is built layer by layer, from base to stem, in a white semi-liquified “batter,” which means that the experts do their job more by touch than by sight. For Tree of Life Wedding Glass Keepsakes the method is the same as the glass is structured into a symbolic Tree. It’s a process that can take eight days and requires no less than twenty-nine steps.

Once cast, the Lucite is cured in an oven for eight hours and then sanded, buffed, and polished. It is at this point in the process that the edges are beveled and the engravings are color-filled, depending on your specifications. Couples can add up to four lines of English inscription to their piece.

The whole process to complete the piece takes between four to six weeks. This meaningful piece makes a lovely gift, in which case we will send a certificate to the recipients letting them know of the gift. A pre-paid mailing label is also available for sending the broken shards to Treasured Collections, although you may choose to send them on your own.

Before it is shipped, each cube is inspected, re-polished and hand wrapped. It is then sent to you or directly to the gift recipient, (whichever you specify on checkout). A simple gift statement is enclosed with your name or you can send in your own gift card along with the broken glass. Whichever you choose, the end result will be unique and memorable for you and yours.
