Why we decorate the sukkah
It’s actually a mitzvah to decorate your Sukkah! On Sukkot, we spend eight days in the Sukkah. In keeping with the holiday's festive atmosphere, we want that time to be enjoyable. For that reason, Sukkahs are beautifully decorated from roof to walls. Decorating your Sukkah is a way to engage tradition while making lasting memories with your family.
What kinds of sukkah decorations are available
Today, the selection of Sukkah decorations has widened to allow for endless possibilities of easy, affordable decorations for all tastes. In addition to the popular foil decorations, Sukkah lamps and lights, in a variety of all colors and shapes, have become common Sukkah accessories. Now you can find inexpensive decorations that are beautiful too!
Typical Sukkah decoration themes are nature, mixed fruits, birds, flowers, and the Seven Species of Israel. But there are no hard and fast rules. Feel free to hang your child’s preschool art, favorite flag, or whatever else makes your Sukkah feel like home!
